Research Includes: Aerosol particles directly interact with radiation and act as cloud condensation nuclei (CNN), affording them the ability to influence cloud microphysics, planetary albedo, and precipitation. They can also influence atmospheric visibility and lead to adverse health effects. These topics are addressed using a combination of the following:
Instrument Development/Characterization
Aircraft and Ground-Based Field Measurements
Laboratory Experiments of Aerosol-Water Interactions
Combined Model-Observation Studies
Upcoming Project: In the summer of 2010, the Sorooshian group will participate in the NOAA-funded CalNex field study in California. Aircraft measurements will be carried out to study secondary organic aerosol formation and the impacts of aerosols on radiative forcing and cloud formation.
