ogden2.jpg (8245 bytes) OGDEN, Kimberly L. – Ph.D., University of Colorado, 1991. Dr. Ogden joined The University of Arizona faculty in 1992. Dr. Ogden’s research interests lie in the areas of bioremediation and biotechnology, with an emphasis on transport and fermentation processes. In particular, she investigates the effects of heavy metals on biodegradation and develops treatment strategies to remediate wastes (solid and liquid) containing mixtures of organics and heavy metals. Recent waste streams studied include soil contaminated with explosives and barium. In addition, she is the Education Thrust Leader for the NSF/SRC Engineering Research Center for Environmentally Benign Semiconductor Manufacturing. Her research related to the ERC involves determining the feasibility of using microorganisms to remove organics and metals from water streams that will be recycled within a semiconductor plant. She also is investigating the formation and destruction of biofilms in ultra-pure water systems.

Dr. Ogden was a member of a three year National Research Council study investigating the sampling procedures and transport of radioactive materials to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. She is active in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a member of the board of directors and a founding member of the Society of Biological Engineers.
