FIELD, James– Ph.D., Wageningen Agricultural University, Netherlands, 1989.  Dr. Field joined The University of Arizona in 2001.. Prior to that he was a research associate in the Department of Environmental Technology and in the Division of Industrial Microbiology, Department of Food Technology and Nutritional Sciences at Wageningen Agricultural University, Wageningen, Netherlands.

Dr. Field has conducted research in four general areas:

  • Soil science.
  • Anaerobic biodegradation of priority pollutants.
  • Lignin degrading system of white rot fungi.
  • Biosynthesis of organohalogens by fungi.

At UA ChEE he is setting up a research program in biodegradation of pollutants in bioremediation systems and bioreactors.  He is pursuing research projects aimed at mineralizing and preventing pollution through microbial processes.  Some of his research interests include:

  • Anaerobic bioremediation.
  • Designing biodegradability into industrial compounds.
  • Biotechnology in closed water circuits
